1918년 편성된 제77전투비행대는 미공군 전투비행대중에서도 가장 오래된 전투비행대 중 하나로 1942년까지 본토 방공 임무를 맡았고 이후 1943년 1월 캘리포니아주 마치 공군 기지에 배치되어 유럽 전역에서 활동한 부대입니다. 1945년 P-51 머스탱을 몰고 제2차 세계대전의 마지막 습격인 체코슬로바키아의 루프제니 공략에 참전했습니다. 가슴에 있는 5개의 트럼프 카드는 5기 이상의 적기를 격추시킨 에이스에게 주어지는 패치이며 이중 붉은색이 적용된 7 카드 2장은 제77전투 비행대를 나타내는 표시입니다. 후면에 핸드프린팅으로 그려진 P-51 머스탱을 필두로 45개의 실크햇(탑햇), 스틱은 출격 횟수를 나타내고 있습니다.
